Conspicuous Marketing Part 2 – Webinars

When given the responsibility of marketing a new product or business two clear aims are often targeted; increase sales revenue, and increase brand visibility. Normally I would use the term ‘market share’ but that is not always applicable to new niche products targeting a ‘gap’, or a new market entirely.

As mentioned in my previous blog Webinars: A Little Investment Pays Great Dividends, professional webinars are a fantastic way to target multiple markets both at home and overseas, but they are also a great way for a company to market itself and be seen as ambitious and proactive. Particularly if your goal is investment, being conspicuous with your marketing is massively important. Investors will want to see that a company and the people running it have the potential to move their business forward and provide a substantial return on their investment; traits which are portrayed well with conspicuous marketing.

How many times on Dragons’ Den do you see potentially good ideas shot down in flames because of the lack of business acumen of the people pitching their company? Venture capitalists market themselves as ‘seeking ambitious’ growth companies [1] which is why conspicuous, targeted marketing such as webinars has proven so successful to gain investment. The fact that you have taken the initiative to use webinars in the first instance demonstrates clear ambition for growth – a sound decision by any Dragon’s standards.

Stephen Welton; previously a founder partner of JP Morgan global investment, now CEO at, said last year:

"Some SMEs may fear that they can't raise funding because they read in the press that access to funding is a major problem. So subsequently they feel they should wait until it is no longer a problem. It could be a long wait and of course the danger is that this becomes self-fulfilling" [2] 

The message is clear: too many small-to-medium enterprises are resting on their laurels instead of targeting investment and growth; deterring potential investors with a double-edged sword (if you will).
