Have Your Cake and Sell It

I recently met a lovely lady who runs a cake craft store near where I live. She sells everything a keen baker could wish for and markets her goods at competitive prices. She even offers courses to help train people who are interested the more elaborate techniques of sugarcraft.

I had never heard of this shop until last week, so I popped in to pay a visit and see how things were going. I was not surprised to discover that this local shop was struggling to break into a market which already contains multinational giants such as Tala and Wilton. However, for an outlet with a comprehensive online store I had expected a larger business operation.

So, how can a small business meet the competition head-on and become established in a difficult market place?

The most well-known, household brand on the market features regular new videos on social media and generates literally hundreds of thousands of views. The importance of video for successful marketing can not be underestimated. Just as important, however: The video must be good.

It is hard to fathom a large, successful business uploading video content filmed by amateurs with a smartphone camera. If you are going to take the plunge and make video content, get help. The quality of the video is essential to building trust with your brand, be proud to showcase what you have made both in terms of the video itself and of your latest creation.
